Britt is a natural runner and can run for miles. I've always enjoyed running and have been trying to get myself back into shape and running like I used to before all of my knee surgeries. So, I had the bright that we should participate in the Armed Services YMCA Mud Run. The course was 8K, which is about 4.9 miles. I shared by bright idea with a few of the Chiefs at work, and in no time, we have a Chief's team put together along with the other teams that were already planning on running from the command. Well, what I didn't realize until the day of the race, was that the first mile of the course was down the beach, and the majority of the course route was through dry soft sand. Those running conditions are a lot different than the 4 miles I had been doing on the treadmill. I was in for a big surprise.....but of course, I kept telling Britt "don't worry about me, I'm going to be fine," while what I was really thinking was "Lord, please pull me through this in one piece."

And we were off. The minute we hit this sand all I could think was...."what the hell did I get us into?" Seriously, of the 4.9 mile trail, at least 3 miles of it was dry soft sand.

Britt was such a gentleman. He stayed by my side the entire time. We were worried that the instability of the sand would wreck havoc on my knee, but it really held up well.
I was so ready to be done at this point.....can you tell?

And we finally hit the finish line......THANK GOD!
The night before the mud run, we walked down to Town Point Park for the Ronnie Dunn concert. We really had a great time and probably drank too many beers, considering we were getting up bright and early the next morning to trek through the sand and mud.
